Bunny Cakes
Pre-kindergarten students throughout the country and around the world participated the morning of Tuesday, October 22, 2014 in the 8th annual Read for the Record event, including Ridgeview High School’s Little Paws.
Read for the Record, one of the campaigns operated by JumpStart, aims to celebrate and encourage literacy from an early age, and to prepare students for success as they move into kindergarten and beyond. Last year the program managed to break a world record as nearly 2.5 million adults and children worldwide participated in reading activities.
Beverly Workman, RHS early childhood instructor and director of Little Paws, coordinated this year’s event at RHS, with Ms. Davis guiding her VPK students through exciting activities. Mrs. Segreto wowed the VPK with her dynamic reading of this year’s book, “Bunny Cakes” by author Roseamary Wells and then handed out a copy of the book to all of the children at Little Paws. The VPK then worked their way through the baking, recipe, and shopping centers for an exciting day.
A big thank you goes out to: Dr. Suzanne Herndon for donating a copy of “Bunny Cakes” to every VPK student, Mrs. Segreto for her dynamic reading of the text and for donating copies for all of the two and three year old Little Paws students, and Stephanie Willenbrecht for coming out and helping us make it an exciting day for the children.
We were excited to do our part in exciting little ones to read.
